Study and Deepening on the Vision of Race Unity from a Spiritual Perspective: A Discourse
Friends, in its January 22, 2019 letter, the Universal House of Justice urged the Baha’is to “vigorously engage in constructive public discourse and in a wide range of social endeavors aimed at the betterment of the world and the progress of their respective nations”. We have been asked by our National Spiritual Assembly to make a “determined and sustained effort- in eradicating the stain of racial prejudice from the fabric of our nation.” Our Memphis Baha’i Assembly has asked that the community begin a discourse on racial unity.
In this spirit, we are beginning a series of Sunday afternoon discourses to which we hope eventually to invite the greater Memphis community. For the month of October, we are piloting the program, for Baha’is and their friends. Please come and bring a friend. Their feedback will be most helpful as we move forward. The one hour sessions will involve simply reading a short prayer and short passage followed by offering the attendees an opportunity to reflect on the writings, bringing in the richness of their own experiences and thoughts. The goal is to join hands with each other in a commitment to racial unity and justice, and to create an understanding of the Oneness of Humanity.
